Description

ABSTRACT. -- The occurrence of a taxonomically diverse assemblage of insects in the pleuston of Cox Bay in the central Texas coast is documented. Analyses of life stage occurrence, habitat preference of living populations, degree of decay of specimens, and micro-geographical distribution of the samples are used to determine the transport dynamics of this assemblage into the estuarine environment. A heavy precipitation event over the mainland slightly inland from the coast prior to the occurrence of this assemblage is identified as the causal event. Key words: insects; fluvial transport; coastal estuary; Texas. **********
